On the back of a convincing T 20 win against Hercules, our next limited overs game at home was against Bloemendaal. With no changes from the previous match, Kampong elected to bat and got off to a bad start with Adrian out cheaply. Shaun and Karel came together at the crease and started a good partnership, steading the ship and scoring runs.

The bowling started off well too, with both Camille, Andrew and Saurabh picking up a wicket each, which brought their exchange player to the crease. He, along with his partner, started building up an excellent partnership and the game was drifting away from Kampong. Two quick breakthroughs from Nikki and a flurry of wickets saw the game go right down to the wire. The batting powerplay was taken in the 44th over, but Shaun and Saurabh managed very well to restrict the runs, and keep the exchange player off the strike. 24 needed from the last 2 overs, and Shaun went for 10 of those in the penultimate over, with some very clean hitting from the aforementioned batsman, and, with 14 to get from last over, some very intelligent and belligerent batting from the exchange player(who brought up yet another century in the process), some appalling fielding and catching from the outfielders and some unexpected and “mindless” bowling and field placement from Saurabh, Bloemendaal won with 2 balls to spare.

Truly, a morale- breaking loss for the home side.

Signing out,

Saurabh
